sightseeing the city

Who would have known that sightseeing could be so much work? we must have walked at least 5 miles today.

We left the hotel and wandered down to Ghirardelli Square looking a good breakfast. We walked in and looked around and there were high end restaurants and chocolate. Lori said she wanted diner food, so we cut across the square and around a corner we found... "Lori's Diner" just what she was looking for!

Lori must have been hungry this morning as she ordered the biggest breakfast they had and an orange shake too! The food was very good and in no time we were down on the lower street and looking around.

We walked into a place called "sugar" and they had 1.5 LB box's of Nerds and 2.5 LB Reese's peanut butter cups and lots and lots more. "Later" Lori said and I knew we would be back...

We had decided to ride one of the "Hop on, Hop off" bus tours and relax a little. We got onto the top deck (of course) and off we go. We passed the big Wharf sign and then cut inland to see Russian hill and Lombard St and the financial district. They took us by some of the residential area's and by the Painted Ladies (homes). We went right by he Transamerica building and out to Golden Gate park. There were a few of the more "colorful" people there. LOL

The city hall is comparable to most state capitol's  and they take good care of it. It is mounted on a rubber base in case of an earthquake.

The wires that line all the street's are very interesting. It seems like they should short curcuit themselves at all the major intersections, there are so many.

We headed out across the Golden Gate Bridge and back and then into China town. Lori and I have never been to this chinatown so we got off and wandered through. It is a very interesting place. At the far end we decided to just keep walking because we were only about 12 blocks from the wharf area by then. The problem was the wharf area was a couple of miles long.

We finally made it back to Pier 39 and watched a few people play on the bungie cords before deciding we wanted to visit the aquarium. They have underwater tunnels that you can see what it is like from the fish's perspective.

After leaving there we went back to the main food area of the wharf and ate dinner at Rick's. I had Fettuccine and bay shrimp and scallops in a home made alfredo sauce and it was the best I have had in a long tome. The best part was the bill. Not what you would expect for this area. We had bread, an appetizer, 2 drinks, and 2 entree's, and the bill was $43. A great deal for extremely good food.

Now, of course, it was time to go back to "sugars" for Lori's sugar fix before walking back to the hotel. They did have a "be a Canadian" breath spray there. I think it smelled like beer... I can say Ah! as good as anyone, so with this breath spray, I too can be a canadian!

Tomorrow, we head north with no destination in mind. We are just going to go until we decide to stop. However short or long that may be.
